Inspired by the past
If there is such thing as vacation blues, I am sure I have them. Since I came back from Europe a week ago I have not been able to stop missing it. It is wonderful to be able to travel with the people one most love. The ones that make life bigger and better no matter where we are and what we are doing. This was the case in my last vacation with my four sons and husband as we took as many trains, walked as many miles and flew as many hours as needed and visited places that inspired us. Places that made us gasp with admiration.
Yes, many times we were tired of rolling along with our suitcases, but the moments of joy, enjoyment and love were worth the effort and I feel fortunate .
One of the places we visited was the castle of Chenoceaux in France. Chenonceaux is one of many castle in the valley of Indre-et-Loire in northwestern France, and has been standing since 1513! Not only it’s architecture is breath-taking (it was built crossing Cher River) but also it’s art, furnishings, gardens and believe it or not kitchens.
With a clever distribution the kitchens managed to have three large chimneys, a humongous stove, a poultry and meat roster, two medieval water pumps and a strategic position for easy transportation of supplies from riverboats for stocking.
Who ever planned this kitchen knew what they were doing. The clever distribution is worth the time! With a large butcher room with wooden block tables, wonderful copper skillet, pot and molds, grain baskets, garlic and pepper reeds and old-time wooden tables one can only be transported to medieval times, and can’t help to admire the people who built this wonderful place that make sense not only for its beauty and detail but also because it screams dignity and pride.
